Can you block VPN visitors on Shopify?

Guides · Updated 2026-11-03

What can be detected

An IP address tells you which network a visitor comes from. Some networks are published or well known: Tor exit nodes, and the address ranges of major cloud and datacenter providers. Regionly Pro can block both, and you can block or allow single IPs and IP ranges.

What cannot

Most personal VPN services use addresses that look like any other connection, and some route traffic through home connections. Regionly does not detect personal VPNs. A visitor from a blocked country who uses a VPN that exits in an allowed country will usually get in.

Blocking cloud and datacenter networks (Pro) can also catch real customers, for example on some company networks or privacy relays. Try it in Log only first and look at what would have been blocked.

What to use instead

If people are getting around a storefront block, move the rule to where it matters: Regionly Pro checkout rules on shipping or billing country, email domain and phone prefix apply in the checkout, including Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Orders that still get through can be tagged and held for review.
